On Wednesday May 8th,  I attended the inauguration of the first annual Desserts of the World Festival at the Shenkman Arts Centre with one of OMC Bloggers, TurnipseedTravel.

We indulge in sweets by sampling some of the finest treats provided by the best pastry shops and chefs in town, and desserts from a few Embassies.  Embraced by the sound of DJ Emily Jones, we had the opportunity to mingle with Mayor Jim Watson and Max Keeping, while enjoying live painting by artist Allan André and salsa demonstrations by Salsa Fanatics. There was a silent auction and raffle for a bouquet of flowers by Crown Floral Boutique.

You could also purchase the desserts by buying tickets at a booth which speed up the payment process at the vendors tables. Each ticket was $1 and was the equal retail value at the tables, so for a $3 cupcake, you gave 3 tickets.

You could not have a Desserts Festival without a cake decorating contest!

Proceeds from the event will be given to St-Mary’s Home to honour their 80 years of helping young mothers in the Ottawa region.
