Create and Design with Beados! #Review and #Giveaway ~ #HolidayGiftGuide ~ CAN 12/07

| November 3, 2014 | 62 Comments

Creating objects is my eldest’s specialty. She loves working with different products to make the concept in her head into something real. If she could, she would spend all of her time doing just that! That is why I wanted to review Beados, where kids can build just about whatever they want out of beads.

Both of my girls were excited to see that this box held in store for them to create. I was kind of curious as to how great this product was as I’ve never heard of creating objects out of beads before.

Beados Product

Ah, here it is all assembled!

 BeadosAssembled-A

It came in about seven pieces in the box, and it took no time at all to out together. It was a few snaps here and there and Ta-Da! It was ready to go! Here is what came along with in this kit:

• 1 Connector (the fan that connects the beads)
• 600 beads
• 1 tweezer pen
• 6 suction cups
• 1 bridge (to help place the connector bead in place)
• 8 design templates
• 1 bead storage tray
• 1 large play pad
• 1 spray bottle,
• 1 dual scene card
• 2 design trays
• 2 display stands
• A Teapot Café template and a Family Mansion template to help bring the world of Beados to life after some of your creations are completed.

This set came with a few patterns for kids to get started with product. My girls chose to make the penguin since they thought it was the cutest out of all of the patterns we were given. The instructions were easy to follow, and showed us how to use the tools we were given to create our designs. My eldest daughter liked using the tweezer pen. It made it easier to pick up the beads from the bead storage tray and then placing them into the design tray. I also liked that the design templates fit into the design trays so that you did not have to worry about it shifting as you were creating your design. My eldest enlisted my younger daughter to help her as my younger daughter wanted to jump in and help with the design.

Penguin Build Collage

Since my daughter likes to build animals, she wanted to see if she could put her favourite video game lizard together without using a pattern. She did this design free-handed, and it turned out quite well.

Beados Yoshi

Once our designs were complete, the next steps were easy to accomplish! I had my eldest use the spray bottle to wet both designs to activate the beads. My youngest (under my supervision) had the honour of turning the Connector on. I was curious as to what would happen if someone put their hand in front of the blades of the Connector as it was on. To my surprise, I was not hurt at all! The blades are flexible and are covered in a felt-like material. Even though I know knew that the blades would not hurt my kids, I still did not let them put their hands near the blades.

Spray and Fan Collage

The instructions stated that the beads needed about 10-15 minutes to dry. We may have over sprayed our designs as both designs were still wet, and the design trays were also wet after this allotted time period (the arrow is pointing out some of the spots where the design is still wet after being under the Connector) . I decided to let them sit over night to let our designs dry without anyone disturbing them.

BeadosPenguinNotDry-A

This is how our designs turned out. It took a bit of careful lifting from the design trays to release them from the holes, but they came out all intact! They both are very cute, and my kids could not wait to try new designs with the beads we had left.

Complet Collage

My kids liked creating fun designs with Beados. It is a great set to get my kids away from the television for a bit and to have fun making designs. The kit was easy to assemble, the instructions were easy to follow, and it was fun to use the Connector. This would be a great gift idea for any child that likes to create and design objects.

Happy designing!

I'm a huge sports fan, have a love of reading, and like experiencing new things whenever I can. I am now a mother of three children (11, 1 and 7 months old) and am kept constantly on my toes. My blog, Pieces of Me, is my way of sharing what I have enjoyed and encountered in my life so far as a mother. So far, being a mom has had it's expected ups and downs, but that's what makes being a parent so fulfilling for me. I've loved and learned from what's happened so far, and I can't wait to see what's in store for me next. I hope you enjoy the journey with me!
