Capture Adventure with VTech Canada Kidizoom Action Cam
Capturing memories is what my family loves to do. Whether it is of something they see, a funny selfie, to a video of themselves being wacky, we saving these memories. My kids are becoming better with being on both sides of the camera and I have been looking into getting them one so they can snap fun experiences whenever they want. VTech Canada knows how much kids love sharing their world with others. They asked if my ‘photogs” would like to review their Kidizoom Action Cam 180 to see if they would have fun capturing their adventures on a camera designed with kids in mind. We were really excited to get started.
The VTech Kidizoom Action Cam 180 is a great way to share their explorations wherever they go. This camera two cameras that captures the photos and action videos. The lens can flip from photo to selfie mode with the flick of a finger. This kit also comes with the follow items to make creating adventurous memories while sledding, biking and more:
- Waterproof case
- Bike mount
- Mounting Attachment with adhesive flat mount
- Micro-USB cable
- Wrist strap
My kids love being on both sides of the camera. Since they constantly want to use my DSLR to capture their adventures, they were happy to be able to have a camera they can use to snap the things that interest them whenever they want. This camera comes equipped with the following features:
- 8 colour LCD
- Photo resolution 640 x 480 (0.3 MP)
- Video resolution 640 x 480 (with memory card)
There are a few buttons to become familiar with in order to use the functions of this camera properly. Both of my kids took little time to learn the primary functions. The 180 swivel lens was easy for them to use when they wanted to switch from normal mode to selfie mode. The Home button was simple for them to use to go from camera mode to the setting section and more in a flash.
The added camera and video buttons made saving exciting moments simple.
I really liked the waterproof case. Usually, I am worried about the camera getting damaged due to rough and tumble fun. This case, which is waterproof as deep as six feet, allowed me to let them go loose both indoors and out without having a second thought to the sturdiness of the camera.
An added bonus to this camera was the game mode. Two games and one augmented reality game is included with this camera. My kids were happy they were able to jump right into playing games at their learning level.
The one issue I had with this camera was with the flip cam function. It is great that kids do not have to use a function or button on the camera, but it becomes difficult to use when it is in the case. Users have to unlock the case, then take the camera in order to flip the lens on and off of selfie mode. It took a bit away from the moment my kids were in when they wanted to capture their fun.
For me, the photo quality of this camera was not the best. A lot of the photos and videos came out a bit grainy. My kids love the photos and video they took. They both got upset with me for suggesting to remove any of the photos on this camera to make space for more of them. I believe it is a good enough quality for kids to love and enjoy their masterpieces for years to come, but it is not at the same level as a more powerful camera. I had to also remember that it is a toy, so I liked what this camera was able to produce at this level.
Overall, my kids loved capturing their adventures with the VTech Action Cam 180. Right out of the box, my kids took little time to learn the primary features and start shooting. The waterproof case was a fabulous idea when kids want to save their weather permitting or everyday experiences without worrying about the camera being damaged. The game mode is an added bonus when kids want to sit still and want to have more fun. My photogs are really happy with their new camera and will be sharing their fun for years to come with it!
