Last week I had a cake and cupcakes delivered for a review from Cakeadoodledoo. At first I thought it might be a bad idea, seeing my hubby is trying to watch his caloric intake, but he gave me his “blessing” and I told him that “one sliver won’t ruin his ‘diet’.”

He said he wasn’t going to have any… Riiight. He was steadfast, while our son and I tried one cupcake. Turned into one every night. One chocolate-chocolate chip cupcake with white frosting and a baby blue fondant snowflake, MELTED into our mouths!

Then we woke up to this on our counter…

… I had just gotten up  and was getting our son ready to go catch the bus, hubby had just gotten home from the overnight shift.. walked outside, son got on bus, walked in to … the hubby had eaten a piece…

Our son thought these was the best cupcakes and cake EVER! The funniest is when he tried to carry the cake and found it REALLY “heavy”, so I weighed the cake.  5 pounds it weighed! And none of us felt an ounce of guilt!

With the coming trend of cakes and cupcakes, I had to ask Sylvia about her stay at home profession, which a lot of moms like.

“I started baking pies and cookies at a very young age, so I have always liked baking. I got introduced to cake decorating as a student, long before all the popular TV shows started. I made many cakes for friends and family, and they always half jokingly said I should start selling them. I never seriously considered starting a cake business until I became a mom and was looking for a way to support my family while staying home with my two little girls. I tested the waters and was rewarded with an overwhelming amount of support. I decided to take the leap and here I am!”

How does the whole process start?

To bake and decorate an average cake? Most of the cakes take between 8-12 hours to make. Especially cakes with a lot of detailing or handmade flowers or figurines can take a long time to do as many have to be built in stages and dry overnight before she can continue working on them.

But isn’t fondant hard to work with?

According to Sylvia, “fondant can be quite tricky to work with, especially to get it smooth, without air bubbles and without cracking.  You have to work quickly as it will start hardening once it gets exposed to the air, so if you wait to long it gets too hard and will starts cracking. You often have to decorate things in stages as certain parts need to harden before you can continue working on it”.

How can people contact you?

“People contact me via email, Facebook or phone and talk to me about their event. In some cases clients send me pictures of cakes they like or Pinterest pages with ideas and cakes they like. Other times we brainstorm we design the cake from scratch. I work with my clients to come up with a cake design uniquely suited to them. I take inspiration from many things, such as event invitations, event decorations, themes of the party, hobbies or accomplishments of the recipient etc. and try to capture what the client is looking for. I do a lot of research as I like my cakes to be as accurate as possible, and come up with a few design proposals for the client and we go from there. For big orders I require a 20% down-payment to reserve the date and purchase necessary supplies. The client and I agree on a date and time for cake pick up or delivery.”

Thank you SO much Sylvia! It was the ultimate treat.
