Bath Before Bed? Yes or No?Rubber Duck

First of all, let me just say that I am not a big fan of including a bath in a bedtime routine. Mainly, because I want parents to put their children down to bed when they are tired but before they are over-tired. Since the bath can activate a child, getting the timing right can be a bit tricky.

Bedtime routines are wonderful ways for parents to provide a few calming activities, which work as strong cues that help the child prepare for falling asleep. So the child will know that they do A, B then C and then they fall asleep.

Andrea, we do baths (well quick showers now) before bed. When my first son was born that is what all moms around me had done and or recommended. One rationale had been there is not enough time in the morning – constantly rushing to do the morning routine – brush/wash, dress, breakfast and get out of the house in time for all of us to make it to our respective places. And especially in winter with weather we needed more time of course. Another rationale was that it does calm them down after a full day but to your point I can totally see how it activates them. I guess it is true with most of us, which is why I have a shower in the morning to start the day. I look forward to part 2 of your post.

Thank you for commenting! I showered my babies too when they were young. I consider bath and shower very similar as far as the bedtime routine goes.
