3 Toys to Discover Fun Through Play This Fall!

Summer may be over soon, but does that mean that playtime has to end? NO WAY! Fall is a great time to discover fun. Whether it be after school or during the weekend, fun times can be had during this time of the year. My family was asked if we could see if three toys could help them discover fun this fall. We were really excited to see how much fun each toy would be!

Discovering hidden treasure

My kids love to discover surprises. They also have a sense of adventure. Treasure X brings both of these elements together with their Treasure X Single Pack kits.

Treasure X Kit.

Treasure hunters are able to go through ten levels of adventure with each kit. Each level reveals a different piece of the adventure kids need to find their treasure.  Each kit includes:

  • Character
  • Vessel
  • Pick Tool
  • Treasure Chest
  • Map/Collector Guide
  • Ancient Coin
  • Scroll

My kids could not wait to rip into this kit to find the treasures that lay in wait for them.

Kids have the option to soak the sand block under water for thirty seconds to make finding the items or doing it dry. They loved getting messy while in search of treasure. It was fun to see how they learned which techniques worked best to get the sand to find all of the pieces hiding within each block.

Each kit comes with a Treasure Hunter that is in search of the treasure within the block as well. Each one is cute, and my kids found it easy to put their figure together.

The treasure chest was fun to watch as well. The fizzy sand within it was cool to watch. Both of my kids did not find golden treasures, they liked the items their Treasure Hunters could now play with.

A few wrong turns on the way to finding treasure

There were a few issues I found with the Treasure X kits. Head’s up: It. Is. MESSY. I made sure to do this one outdoors to not worry too much about the clean-up afterwards. There were also a few times they found the shrink-wrapped items too hard to open on their own. It was also difficult for me to open as well. Even though there were these few issues with these kits, my kids had fun opening and playing with them.

Discovering STEM through play

Science is a subject my kids find fascinating. They are always asking how things work and why things the way they are in our world. Professor Maxwell’s 4D Augmented Reality Science Lab from Spicebox helps kids to discover science in a whole new way.

Professor Maxwell’s 4D Science Augmented Reality Science Lab

Kids learn different areas of science such as Chromatography, Static Electricity, Carbon Dioxide and much more. With the 4D goggles on, Professor Maxwell guides kids through each experiment with easy to follow instructions in Augmented Reality.

I thought it was great to have a kit like this for my little ones to have to be able to learn how science works for themselves.

Kids with components of Volcanic Eruption experiment.

My kids really enjoyed trying out some of the experiments found in the book that comes along with this kit. Their favourite experiment to do (which they did over and over again) was the Erupting Volcano. With some vinegar form our cupboards, my son watched as Professor Maxwell explain a bit about volcanoes and then go through the experiment step-by-step. Within minutes, we had a mini volcano spewing coloured “lava” all over our table.

A few issues with this kit

I had a few issues this kit. I found when using the app with the goggles, that my phone became extremely warm. It got to a point where I did not want to use them while doing the experiments. My kids were able to still do the experiments without the professor’s help, but it would be nice to not have to worry about my smartphone overheating while using the goggles.

Another issue I had with this kit was that a bit of planning is needed before conducting some of these experiments. There were some items needed for this kit that we had to provide, such as white flowers, iodine, and vinegar. We had to search around our home or go out to get them before getting to experiments. It took away a bit of the fun of each experiment.

Even though we had these issues when trying this kit out, they really enjoyed learning about science with this kit.

Discovering new ways to laugh

Kids love saying funny things. They LOVE hearing the funny things they say repeated back to them even more. YakBot from Really Rad Robots lets kids hear themselves speak in so many ways!

Really Rad Robots YakBot

Whether it is happy, or impatient, YakBot allows kids to record a funny words or phrases and then play them back in different ways to give them hours of laughter.

Kids can warp their voice with the help of four cool effects (Pitch Shift, Reverse, Robot and Echo). YakBot will also answer questions you ask it and even help kids to play pranks on their friends.

The YakBot is so much fun to play with! It is easy for my children to discover how to use and manipulate. Hearing some of their funny phrases with the effects provided is hilarious. The prank feature surprised us, and my kids want to do it over and over again. We really enjoyed playing with this toy.

Discovering fun in so many different ways

Overall, my kids and I enjoyed discovering fun with these three toys for fall. The kids loved finding the secrets that lay within Treasure X. It was fun to learn about the world of science with Professor Maxwell’s 4D Lab kit. There was no shortage of laughter when YakBot was around. Each of these toys help my kids learn something new. They were able to solve a problem, see what happens when certain items are mixed together, and figure out how to work a robot. These types of play would be great for after school or weekend play at home!
