Fall is here! Just because the days are becoming shorter and cooler does not mean the fun in Ottawa has come to an end! There are plenty of fun fall family activities happening in and around the city for your family to enjoy! We have put together a list of some of events and activities you can attend this autumn!

Fall Events and Festivals

1. Ottawa Butterfly Show Carleton University – Nesbitt Biology Building – September 29 – October 7, 2018 from 9 am – 4 pm (Weekend closes at 3 pm)
This show is a free exhibition that features 1300 butterflies that arrive in 5 different shipments. They represent 41 different spices worldwide! It is great for families to attend because of the interaction visitors get with these beautiful creatures.

2. Culture Days Billings Estate National Historic Site – September 29 – 30, 2018 from 10 am – 4 pm

Visit the museum as they have plenty of activities available to enjoy! Visitors can handle artefacts from around the museum and see how they have changed (or have stayed the same) over time.

3. Fall Rhapsody Gatineau Park – September 29 – October 21, 2018

Get outside! Travel the trails through Gatineau Park and discover the beauty of the changing of the seasons in our region! There is so much to see and learn. Families can make a day of your adventures while visiting the park. The Pontiac County Fair will have artists and artisans on hand with many products and services to help entertain visitors.

4. Mac My Cheese Fest Festival Plaza Ottawa City Hall – October 12 – 14, 2018

Say Cheese! Ooey gooey cheese and noodles are the main focus of this festival. There will be live entertainment, eating contests, a craft beer garden, a kids zone, and a Best in Mac and Cheese competition are what visitors can expect to enjoy!

Halloween-Themed Events and Festivals

5. Frightfest at Saunders Farm – Weekends from September 22 – October 31, 2018

Have a frightfully fun time as your family visits Saunders Farm this fall! Go for a ride on a boo-tacular hayride. Enter the Barn of Terror for a bit of a scare. Visitors can also bet creeped out at the Bug House!

6. Pumpkinferno at Upper Canada Village  – Thursdays- Sundays (with some exceptions), September 28 – October 28, 2018

Take the family for an evening stroll to see over 7 000 whimsically carved pumpkins. They are on display outdoors lighting your path across this dazzling display! Pumpkins of all different design and shapes will amaze all who attend. You may even pick up some tips for your family’s jack-o’-lanterns this year!

7. Haunted House on the Hill Billings Estate National Historic Site – Fridays and Saturdays – Oct 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27 at 7 pm

The Billing Estate is bringing the fright this October with their Haunted House on the Hill nights! The Estate is transformed into a scary scene designed to give you the chills. Are you willing to face your fears?

8. Halloween Hijinks Cumberland Heritage Village Museum –  Oct 28 from 10 am – 4 pm

Families can discover more of the playful origins at Halloween Hijinks at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum. Visitors can follow clues to help figure out who has been causing mischief at the Museum. Come dressed in our Halloween costume and be treated with treats as you uncover the mystery!

9. Fairy Tale Frightfest Billings Estate Historic Site – Oct 21 from 10 am – 4 pm 

Families will be able to celebrate Halloween early this year with their characters from their favourite stories at the Estate! Visitors can come dress in their costumes to explore Ottawa-inspired fairy tale worlds. There will be Halloween activities and treats to enjoy. *Note – Dress appropriately for the weather as activities will be happening inddors and outdoors.

9. Pumpkin Party Nepean Museum – Oct 28 form 10 am – 4 pm

Are you looking for an event to take your family to celebrate Halloween this year? The Nepean Museum is throwing a Pumpkin Party that everyone will enjoy! Activities will include pumpkin decorating, face painting, and other Halloween-inspired activities. Come dressed for fun in your Halloween costume and be prepared to have a lot of fun!

    Oh, so many fun activities, it makes me want to move to Ottawa! The Frightfest at Saunders Farm sounds like it would be one of our favorites!

    What an awesome collection of fun places to see. Our family has been to Saunders Farm and had lots of fun there. I wold like to se the Fairy Tale Frightfest Billings Estate Historic Site.
