Blame it on lack of exercise or hormonal changes in my body due to pre-menopause, but I have gained a few extra pounds over the last 2 years. I definitely don’t exercise as much as I used to and have been wanting to get back into incorporating an exercise program in my routine. I find this is the hardest to do as there is always something that comes up to alter it and I end up not following through. It’s funny how when I asked the universe for some incite and, not long after, I received a wonderful email wanting me to work with Best Buys and try a couple of products from their unique VIVA line that carries everything from health products to fitness gear and accessories. I am thrilled to review two amazing products that will help me with my weight lost journey and to get fitter, the Fitbit Flex™ and the Blendtec Designer Series Blender!
What is a FitBit Flex™? I asked myself that same question. No, it’s not a new type of dumbbell, but a Wireless Activity and Sleep Wristband that I have been wearing day and night. At first, I thought I would only wear it during the day, but found it to be very light and slim, so I kept it at night to track my sleeping pattern. I have to say that it’s a wonderful motivator to keep me more active and eat healthier no matter what. You get addicted to it as you want to see your daily progress, thus keep you going to reach your weight goal. The FitBit Flex™ tracks steps, distance, and calories burned. Once you sign up online, you can add your weight, pounds to lose, food you eat throughout the day, activities, and so much more! You can also use their App to keep track on your phone. It can even wake you up in the morning by vibrating, just set it up on their website or from a compatible mobile device. It’s also waterproof, so you can take your shower with it!
I selected a medium food plan intensity to loose 1 pound a week and am on target to achieve my weight loss goal. You can select 4 different types of intensity to help you lose weight at a moderate pace or faster. My plan is to have a daily calorie deficit of -5oo calories per day and lose 1 pound per week. It’s not a set number of calories per day plan, but the difference between the calories that you have eaten versus the calories that you have burned. Some days I eat more and have to be more active to reach my daily calorie deficit goal. I get going and start walking, exercising, running, dancing, etc… I like the fact that I don’t deprive myself from eating the foods I enjoy such as a cookie or muffin once in a while, and for most part, I still make healthy food choices. The FitBit Flex™ really motivates you to move and reach your weight lost goal!
Two things make up the FitBit Flex™ Food Plan:
Daily Calorie Estimate
Uses your average activity to give you an estimate of how many calories you should eat to meet your weight goal. This updates throughout the day if you are more or less active than usual. As you log food during the day, the calories you can still eat will update.
Calories in vs Out
This view is a real-time calculation of your calorie deficit and shows whether you’re in the goal zone set by your Food Plan. Your plan’s deficit is pro-rated over the entire day.
I am really enjoying the benefits of wearing a FitBit Flex™ Wireless Activity and Sleep Wristband and will definitely continue to wear it to help keep me more active. Now the hubby wants to try it too! Like I said, very addictive!
Up next is the powerful Blendtec Designer Series Blender. OMG, this blender is so unbelievable! Finally, a blender powerful enough to make smoothies with ice cubes and frozen fruits in 40 seconds without stopping. You will be amazed!
It’s 12 appliances in 1:
- a food processor
- an ice cream maker
- a hand mixer
- a coffee grinder
- a bread mixer
- an ice crusher
- a whole juicer
- a soup maker
- a milk shake mixer
- a meat grinder
- an immersion blender
- a grain mill
The Blendtec Designer Series Blender is so stylish and sleek that you will want to show it off on your counter top. Might as well have it handy as you will use it daily. The blend cycles are represented by illuminated backlit icons. You can manually control the speed, but you can also select any speed with a tap of the finger. The control surface is flat and easy to clean. Blendtec also makes commercial blenders for restaurants and they actually use the exact same motor and jar in their Designer series for household use. No wonder it’s so powerful with 1560 watts!
To keep up with my new healthier lifestyle, I would like to share a few recipes found in the Fresh Blends Recipes Book supplied with the Blendtec Blender. Of course, the first unanimously asked recipe by my family was to make our very own Ice Cream.
We opted to try the Quick Strawberry Ice Cream! It contains 150 calories per 1/2 cup. It was so delicious with an abundance of strawberry flavour. If you freeze it, you will have to keep it on the counter top to defrost before you can it eat. Best eaten after making it.
- 1 cup of half and half cream
- 3/4 cup of sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 20 oz of frozen strawberries (about 4 cups)
- Add ingredients to jar in the order listed and secure lid.
- Select “Ice Cream” and serve.
N.B. For any recipe, make sure you always add the liquids first followed by soft solids and hard/dense items.
Time: 45 seconds.
I love juices, but it’s even better when you can prepare one yourself that is so easy to do. You just can’t beat the taste and aroma of a fresh juice!
Tomato Vegetable Juice
- 1/2 cup of water
- 2 Roma tomatoes
- 1/2 celery stalk
- 2″ slices of red bell pepper
- 1/2 green onion
- 1/8″ slice lemon
- 1/16 teaspoon of Kosher salt
- 8 drops of Worcestershire sauce
- Add ingredients to jar in order listed and secure lid.
- Select “Whole Juice” and serve.
N.B. For more tomato flavour, add tomato juice instead of water.
Time: 50 seconds
We enjoy eating salsa and tortilla chips while watching a movie at home, so the Easy Salsa recipe was ideal! The salsa was a big hit!
- 4 oz can green chiles, not drained (you can add to taste)
- 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice
- 1 clove garlic, quartered
- 1/2 teaspoon of Kosher Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cumin
- 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes, not drained
- 1 chunk onion, approximately 2 tablespoon
- 1/4 cup of fresh cilantro leaves
- Add green chilies, lime juice, garlic, salt and cumin, and secure lid.
- Press “Pulse” 3 to 5 times ( start with 3 and verify the consistency)
- Add tomatoes, onion, and cilantro and secure lid.
- Press “Pulse” 3 to 5 times ( start with 3 and verify the consistency) and refrigerate or serve.
N.B. Always press minimum number of pulses in a recipe and verify the consistency after. It blends so fast that it can turn your salsa into mush easily.
Time: 7 seconds
You can also make bars, dips, dressing, sauces, soup, bread, baby food purées, exfoliating mask, treats for your pets, and more using recipes provided with the Blendtec Blender.
I just love the Blendtec Designer Series Blender and it is well worth the investment to purchase one for your family. It’s definitely helping me achieve my weight lost goal and enhance a healthier lifestyle now that I can make wholesome food and beverages from scratch under a minute!
