I do not like to declare resolutions for myself at the beginning of each year. I feel as though there is so much pressure to meet certain goals, and if I do not meet (or even try to meet them), then I feel as though I have let myself down in some way. Instead, I like trying new things to improve myself. If I like them, I will stick with it. Below are some of the new things I am going to try this year to try and make myself feel like a better version of myself.
Become More Fit
I have been a bit of a couch potato after my younger two children were born, and I have been feeling doing like a bit of a slouch lately. So I have willed myself to start off slowly where getting fit is concerned. When my kids are down for a nap, I have been taking a half an hour to do some beginner’s yoga in the comfort of my own home. I also try walking a bit quicker and running up the hill before reaching my home a little bit when I have my kids out in their wagon to get my heart pumping for a better cardiovascular work-out. There are days that doing this is more of a work-out than I had bargained for, but it is so satisfying to know that I did it better than I had done it the day before, and that I feel better knowing that I am not as weak as I thought I was.
I am a notorious junk food consumer. Chips, chocolate, popcorn, and pop are my delicious vices, and they are everywhere! I have also noticed that I have begun to feel a little bit worse for wear if I consume a lot of these foods without balancing them out with some healthy, nutritious food. I especially love eating junk food at night after I have put my little ones to bed. To curb my snack obsessions, I have been substituting some most of my junk food celebrations with healthier options. Instead of a bowl of chips or popcorn and a glass of pop, I am now having sliced apples and grapes and either milk or water. I have noticed I feel better and mentally more alert when I wake up the next morning. I have also been starting taking a multivitamin to help me make sure I am taking in all of the vitamins I need in a day. I love that Vitafusion™ MultiVites gummies makes taking a multivitamin easier to take every day. Since they are soft and chewy, they are more fun to eat. My other half and I have also been looking into giving our children a multivitamin, and Vitafusion makes one for kids, too! It is called try L’il Critters™ Gummy Vites™. We are hoping that they will like them as much as we do, and will want to take them every day.
After becoming more fit and feeding my body, my mind needs a bit of nourishment as well. Since my kids are becoming less dependent on me, I have decided to rekindle a passion of mine: Reading. I LOVE reading, and now that I can read, I am going to catch up- on the books I have wanted to read over the past few years. It is really a great escape for me, and it gets my mind working, as I like to picture myself as a fly on the wall, watching the story before me unfold. I would like to get through this rather large stack of books over the next year, so I can then get caught up with the books that are being released this year.
These are just some of the things I want to do to make myself a better me this year. I am hoping that, by doing these things, that feel better, both inside and out, and that these steps will then lead to bigger goals to accomplish for myself in the future.
What steps would you like to take to make yourself better inside and out this year?
