Summer Bucket Lists

Summer bike rides

It’s warming up in Ottawa and school will be out before we know it. My son is in junior kindergarten so this will be our first summer break. I’m looking forward to no more school, no more bus runs and packed lunches and lost library books. I’m looking forward to having time again to head to our awesome museums or explore somewhere new. But I worry that the summer months will fly by, one day after the next, until it’s back-to-school season once again. So how can we get the most out of our summer break? I’m making a bucket list!

A bucket list? For summer? Yes! I’m thinking a popsicle eating, bike riding, duck feeding, tree climbing kind of list. A list of things to do with the kids during the day and as a family in the evenings and on weekends. I want to give my kids the opportunity to see and do new things and have a great summer. I want these couple months to really stand out for us as a family.

When I was thinking of ideas to add to my list I decided to search online for “summer bucket list”. Go ahead and try it. You’ll be amazed at the results. Some people are so crafty! I took what I found as inspiration and started my list.

– go swimming

– go to the park

– build a huge sandcastle

– go to the Agriculture Museum, the Museum of Technology and the Aviation Museum

– go to the cottage

– run through the sprinkler

– go on a family bike ride

– eat popsicles

– eat dinner outside

– set up the tent in the backyard

– run a race

– plant a vegetable garden

– watch fireworks

What would you add? What’s on your summer bucket list?

Add go camping, go to the waterpark, visit a splash pad, swim at the wading pool and go for an unexpected car trip to that list and it sounds pretty great to me!
