Rockin’ Out with Will Stroet of Will’s Jams in Concert! #Review #Ottawa

| November 27, 2014 | 6 Comments

Award-winning bilingual children’s singer/song-writer, Will Stroet , began his tour through Ontario with a stop here in Ottawa! He and The Backyard Band performed at the Bronson Centre – Mac Hall. Rock the Arts, an Ottawa-based puppet company, was also on hand for the event, opening the concert for Will Stroet and the Backyard Band. I took my daughter to attend her first of many concerts. She was excited that she would be going out and she would be able to jump around, sing and dance to her heart’s content with other children at a concert!

When we arrived at the Bronson Centre for the concert, my daughter was a bit shy as she was in a new environment and around new people. I took her for a tour of Mac Hall, the theatre within the Bronson Centre that would be holing the concert.

She began to warm up a little, and she even said hi to one of the puppets from Rock the Arts! She is a lover of shoes, and she fell in love with the ones this puppet was wearing!

The audience was then asked to take their seats as the concert was set to begin. The performers from Rock the Arts were very entertaining, making my daughter come more out of her shell and participate with their routine.

Then it was time for Will Stroet and The Backyard Band to take to the stage! He was so engaging towards the children and to the parents in the audience. My daughter had forgotten all of her inhibitions, and was on her feet, dancing and singing along with Will Stroet! These were the best shots of my daughter giving into the rhythm of the music as she was, at some points of this concert, commanding that she had to have her own spot on the dance floor to do her thing!

After the last note rang out across the room, Will Stroet and The Backyard Band met with the audience. He gave out stickers to all of his younger fans, and was also signing CDs from his latest album, Just Imagine, for his fans. This was also my daughter’s first encounter with a performer. It was as if she had done this on many occasions before this moment. She went right up to him, and spoke to him. He then thanked her for coming out to his concert, and gave her a sticker. She thanked him, and came back to me to show me her new treasure.

The performers from Rock The Arts were also amazing after the show! They also spoke with the audience and let my daughter give one of the puppets a big hug! She was so excited about the whole event!

This was an amazing experience! Will Stroet was such a great performer live! He got the kids, big and small, on their feet to participate in his performance, there was never a moment where the kids were bored, and my daughter had a grin on her face the whole time he and the Backyard Band were on the stage! The day was surely brightened on this gloomy Sunday afternoon! My daughter was so happy to have had this experience, and I feel that this experience has planted the seed for her to want to attend many more concerts!

If you are not from the Ottawa area, Will Stroet has two more concert dates on his tour through Ontario this month! Below are the dates and the locations for these shows:
November 29, 2014 – The Aeolian Hall, London, ON
November 30, 2014 – Al Green Theatre, Toronto, ON.

My daughter and I cannot wait until, hopefully, Will Stroet and The Backyard Band returns to Ottawa again! We had a rockin’ good time!
