I was very excited to get my package for this review. As a reformed lifelong nail-biter, who spent much of her life hiding her hands, it is only recently that I have become interested in doing anything special with my nails.
One thing that I should tell you before you read any further…I’ve never tried any nail products like this before. So this review and attempt at using the product is from a true newbie.
What I received in the mail were three sets of imPRESS Press-On Manicure by Broadway and two sets of Kiss gel DRESS Gel Polish Solution. I chose to test the red press-on manicure nails and the full nail glitter DRESS (within the same package was a French option for just tips).
I tried the press-on manicure first. Because of my inexperience with nail products, my husband helped me put the nails on (true love at its finest) while we watched the latest episode of Game of Thrones. I really liked the packaging for the press-on nails; they come in a pretend nail polish bottle. It’s really cute.
I first cleaned my nails with the enclosed cleansing pad. Then inside the nail polish bottle were a variety of sizes of nails to suit the person’s hands. This was an issue for me because there were so many of very similar sizes; it was hard for me to match up the appropriate sized nails to my hand quickly. The instructions recommend selecting the correct size nail and setting them aside in order so you can put them on more easily. Once my husband put the press-on nails on my fingers, they looked quite nice. These aren’t your grandmother’s thick and obvious artificial nails. They are slimmer and more natural looking.
One thing that you should have ready is the nail file that comes in the package. The nails will have to be filed down to smooth edges and/or cut with nail clippers to ensure your preferred length. The packages I received were all the “short” length, and you can see from the photo that they are quite long on my fingers when first put on. I would prefer an even shorter length. I would recommend the press-on nails for a fun outing with friends like a Bachelorette. The red as well as the other options provided were very bright and/or bold patterns that would be hard to duplicate nicely at home. They also simultaneously stay on well while being easily removable by hand. You can just pull them off.
I later tried the full glitter DRESS. I was able to put these on myself. They were super easy to apply; the DRESS is basically a sticker that you put on over your own nails. Similar to the press-on nails, these were sticky enough to stay on easily, but also provided flexibility in terms of removing to reposition if necessary without losing any of the hold. They come on a sheet that you can hold up against your nails. I found this easier for determining sizing than the press-on nails that came as a large collection in the pretend nail polish bottle. You fold it over your nail and file off the excess. I had a full set complete on my own in about ten minutes. I really liked the look of the DRESS on my short nails in comparison to the press-on nails. It looks and feels more natural and I would consider wearing this product (a less glittery version) to work or as an alternative to a professional manicure for a special event (glitter, glitter, glitter!). A top coat over the DRESS is recommended, but not necessarily required.
My husband also preferred the look of the DRESS as well and said “those look good.” My daughter loved the glittery nails right away, saying “Woah Mommy, your nails are pretty!” Of course, after a day or so of her admiring my nails, I had to do hers too. So I took the leftover DRESS product and cut them down to her size and applied them. She loved it!
These were fun products to review and great value for what you get!
