My family has been slowly learning to eat better since my other half decided to eat less meat and junk food. We are always on the look-out for healthier and delicious choices for our kids to enjoy since they love sugary snacks. We also like finding food that is sourced responsibly so we know that we are giving back to those that are providing food to us as well as to the environment. This is why I was happy to have the chance to review new Non-GMO Project Verified products from Kashi!
My family received the following products from Kashi to try:
• Kashi* Organic Promise* Quinoa Multigrain Flakes & Raisins cereal
• Kashi* GOLEAN* Originals cereal
• Kashi* Seven Grain With Quinoa Bars – Chocolate Chip Chia
• Kashi* Seven Grain With Quinoa Bars – Honey Oat Flax
We decided to taste Kashi* GOLEAN Originals cereal first. It was a great mix of healthy and slightly sweet mix of different crunchy bits such as fibre twigs, crispy soy Protein grahams, and honey-toasted whole grain puffs. My kids enjoyed eating this cereal as a snack without any milk, but it is also tasty with some milk added to it in a bowl. I was happy that they were enjoying this cereal!
I could not get enough of Kashi* Organic Promise Quinoa Multigrain Flakes & Raisins cereal! The hint of cinnamon and the fresh, sun—ripened raisins blended really well with the crispy rice, wheat and quinoa flakes I tasted with every spoon I ate. Let’s just say that I finished the box two days after receiving it. Yes, it was THAT good!
Kashi Seven Grain With Quinoa Bars – Chocolate Chip Chia are a hit with my kids! They loved the bits of chocolate chip combined with oats, barley, buckwheat, wheat, rye, triticale and quinoa (I do not think they noticed the healthy bits while they were eating this snack bar). It was also really nice that these cereal bars snapped easily in half so they could enjoy a little or a lot at their leisure.
My other half’s favourite product we tried was Kashi Seven Grain With Quinoa Bars – Honey Oat Flax. He loves the taste of honey, so these snack bars were perfect for him. He also liked the blend of oat, flax and quinoa. They were a great snack for him to enjoy and to get him through the day.
It was also great to know that, while we were devouring these products, the quinoa Kashi uses in is 100% organic, is Non-GMO Project Verified and is responsibly sourced from Bolivia. Kashi is helping the farmers that provide the quinoa for this cereal with financial training and are also helping to improve the soil health so they can continue to farm on their land after harvesting.
I would definitely recommend any of these products to people who are looking for more responsibly sourced foods, or for someone who is just looking for a new and great-tasking cereal or snack!
Kashi is not only looking to produce great tasting food. For the second year in a row, Kashi has partner with Evergreen to on the #PlantItForward initiative. Its goal is to build and support community gardens across Canada to allow deserving communities to get closer to real, fresh food. Kashi believes in this project because they found in the Kashi Plant It Forward survey that less than half of Canadians they surveyed have ever actually grown fresh fruits or vegetables, and that only a third of Canadians will not visit a farmer’s market or community garden this year.
Plant it Forward is encouraging Canadians to “Give. Get. Grow” while celebrating the little farmers in each of us. Kashi is contributing $100 000 to Evergreen’s Seedling Healthy Communities program to help create and support urban gardens. Kashi is also helping Canadians get back into the garden by placing organic vegetable seeds on specially marked boxes of Kashi cereal and bars so that everyone can participate and grow some delicious produce at home this year.
Kashi is also has an online video entitled “When I Grow Up” which demonstrates how important it is to reconnect Canadian to real food, as well as how important it is to create green space in urban areas, to foster relationships with communities and to give the youth in these communities a place to connect and learn about good food habits.
Kashi was thoughtful enough to send our family five different varieties of tomatoes, greens and veggies to add to our home garden and to build on the Plant it Forward initiative. We are so excited about growing more of our own food, and we really appreciate what Kashi and Evergreen are doing to improve on the lives of Canadians.
We were so happy that Kashi sent us great and healthy products to review, but they also wanted us to be a part of the Plant it Forward initiative. We now have more options to choose from for our family to eat and enjoy, and we will have more food to grow at home.
