Refreshing Flavoured Water Recipes

| July 12, 2013 | 7 Comments

Turn a plain pitcher of water into a healthy, inexpensive, and refreshing drink! This is water with subtle flavours infused into it.  The water will not be sweet.

What you need:

  • jars or pitcher -You an use Mason jars or a pitcher.  You can also purchase fruit infusion pitcher.
  • muddler or wooden spoon for mashing fruit and herbs
  • water -I use bottle water since we have well water, but regular tap water is fine.
  • fruit –anyone except bananas, and make sure they are ripe .  You can mix and match citrus and berries, or pineapple and melons.
  • herbs –they are optional, but will add taste to the water.  I like mint, but you can try rosemary, sage, thyme, and tarragon.

Ingredients

  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 1 lime sliced
  • 1 orange sliced
  • 1 handful strawberries or raspberries
  • 2-3 fresh mint leaves
  • Add ice cubes
  • N.B. To make it sweeter, I added 1/3 cup of organic cane sugar to the pitcher, as I find it too sour, or just add a teaspoon of sugar in a glass. You can use sugar, honey, or maple syrup.

Instructions

  1. Make sure you wash the fruits thoroughly to keep the bacteria and contaminants out of the flavoured water.
  2. Slice the lemon, lime and orange, and cut in two.
  3. Scrunch the fresh mint leaves in your hands to get the flavour out
  4. Add all the fruits and mint leave in 2 quart jars or pitcher.
  5. Press and twist with a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon, but just enough to release some of the juices. I used Pampered Chef Mix' N Chop.
  6. Fill the jars or pitcher with ice.
  7. Pour in water to the top.
  8. Gently stir with a spoon.
  9. Put a lid on the jar or pitcher, and place in the refrigerator to chill.
