Please meet Mom who Blogs, Jenna. She is a mom to 5 great kids, 7 years and under (4 boys and 1 girl…but not in that order)! Prior to becoming a mom, she was a Product Marketing Manager in the high tech, travelling worldwide for her job. In terms of formal training, she holds an Honours B.A in English & Sociology at the University of Toronto. She keeps my skills sharp by working in Marketing and Social Media for a variety of companies.
What is your favourite activity to do with your kid(s)?
My favourite activity to do with my kids is to take a long walk through nature, snapping picture of nature and my kids along the way. It is great fun trying to identify the flora and fauna! Since I got my Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone, I have become a picture-taking fanatic!
What is your Blog name and what do you Blog about?
SnyMed Living High on the Hog, Without Paying Through the Nose! (www.snymed.blogspot.ca) I blog about brands, family living, parenting, savings, frugal living and the Canadian experience. I regularly run contests too!
Why did you start your Blog?
I started my blog because I was getting regular requests to write for others, so I thought “why not write for myself and build an audience”? Of interest, I have writing from a very young age, so blogging for me is really a pleasure!
What tips/advice can you give to moms that would like to start their own Blogs?
The best advice I can give is to write about what you know and what interests you. If you start with any other premise, you might lose interest in your own blog. Next, I would say be social and connect with other brands, bloggers and your ever growing audience. A blog should be a two-way dialogue in my opinion, not a monologue. Also, I would recommend seeking out new opportunities, rather than waiting for one to be dropped directly in your lap. This means going through your online contacts to see who wants to co-brand with you on a giveaway, who is able to to provide a product for you to review, and who can sponsor you in order to make a professional symposium more affordable, for example.
Lastly, I would also recommend getting a decent smartphone, if you don’t already have one. It makes staying connected that much easier.
Yee Wittle Things: http://yeewittlethings.blogspot.ca/ and Sober Julie: http://www.soberjulie.com/ There are many other, so I’ll just stop at two. There are so many talented Canadian bloggers out there!
What is the biggest challenge you encounter when blogging?
The biggest challenge I find when blogging is finding time. Caring for 5 little kids is a lot of work, so I try to make the time.
What is the best part of blogging?
In my opinion, the best part of blogging is making connections with my audience, other bloggers and brands. Through blogging, wonderful opportunities have opened up to my family and I! Some of these opportunities have included trying products that were new to us, attending special events like movies and conferences, and having the chance to speak with celebrities and other distinguished people. Honestly, it gets better and better every week and I am humbled.
Thank you Jenna!
