IMG_0513Please meet Mom-preneur Marie-Ève Labrie.  She is 24 years old mom of a 14 months old. She is from Quebec City, and moved in Ontario a year ago. Her  husband is in the army so it is not easy for army wives to have a career. She decided to start her own business to work 80% from home and 20% out of the office.  She studied in business administration and  did an Event and Wedding Planning course last spring.

What is your mom-preneur business?

Event Planning by M. I have a event and wedding planning business. I help brides to have their dream wedding. I also plan corporate events, birthday parties, bridal showers, baby showers, etc. I offer decorating services too. I help the bride finding the decor that she dreams of. I also set up and take down the decor, that way, brides can live their wedding day without stress.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business because I was looking for a challenge. Being far from family is hard on social life so I needed to have a challenge.

What parenting tips/advice can you give to moms that would like to start their own business?

Do what you want, what you’ve always dream about. It will be positive for your family and your baby to see mom happy.

How does being a mom-preneur affect your family schedule?

It affects the family schedule because most of the time I have to work during evenings and week-ends. So there are weeks that I don’t see my husband really often, most of those weeks are during summer. But, my husband is really helpful and he is behind me no matter what. I am lucky to have him. And during week-ends we have to schedule our activities on sunday because I usually work on saturday.

IMG_0359What is your favourite activity to do with your kid(s) in Ottawa?

To go have lunch with my son, my husband and my dog on the Rideau Canal shore.

What is the biggest challenge you encounter by being a mom and having a business?

To have the energy to work during the evening when you took care of a toddler during all day!! It is hard sometimes.

What is the best part of being a mom-preneur?

To see every step of your child growth and having a career at the same time.

Thank you Marie-Ève!
