When I heard that I was going to the Harlem Globetrotters basketball game show at the Scotiabank Place, I couldn’t help but be excited. I remember when I was growing up I would go and see them at Lansdowne Park. I was happy to see that the basketball game and performance hasn’t changed much, they still play to the crowd and add plenty of funny antics throughout the game. What was really awesome to see was that they have added a female to the squad, TNT, who had some pretty sick handles, that’s dribbling skills for all you non-ballers out there.
Big Easy is the main MC that guides a lot of the on court antics and does a great job at guiding the show from fast paced basketball action to the time outs and interacting with the fans. Whether that is bringing one of the kids on the court and getting them to participate or dumping actual water on some of the fans, setting up the trick confetti dump on fans on the other side of the court.
One of the highlights of the night was when one of the players hopped up on the rim and was batting away balls. Another highlight would be when one of the kids that Big Easy pulled out to the court was coaxed into dancing around the floor in trade for an authentic signed Big Easy jersey.
After the show fans can get their favourite players autograph as they allow the fans to line the court and wait for them to come by.
Even though they didn’t fill the buck like I remembered as a youngster the Harlem Globtrotters put on am entertaining show for the whole family.
