Fall is here! Just because the days are becoming shorter and cooler does not mean the fun in Ottawa has come to an end! There are plenty of fun autumn activities happening in and around the city for you and your family to enjoy! We have put together a list of some of events and activities you can attend this fall.
Fall Family Activities Around Ottawa
Baconpolooza, Canada Agriculture and Food Museum – September 9-11, 2016
Love pork? Then Baconpolooza is an event your family will enjoy! From live bands, tastings, free demos, and a free breakfast on Saturday morning while supplies last), Baconpolooza will sizzle for all who attend!
Bug Day, Canadian Agricultural and Food Museum (Ottawa Research and Development Centre at 960 Carling Ave) – September 10, 2016, 10 am – 3pm
The home of the Canadian National Collection of Insects will be showing visitors the incredible world of insects! Guided insect tours lead by entomologists will teach you how to spot these creatures in nature. Creepers and crawling critters will be available for handling and racing. Learning about how some of these “good” bugs can help out around your home will also be explained. It will be a fun time for all!
Savour Fall at Rideau Hall – September 10, 2016, 12:30 pm- 4:00 pm
Be a part of all of the action and flavours fo the season as Rideau Hall puts on a day of activities the whole family will enjoy! Tour the private gardens, greenhouses and the residence. Meet with local producers and agricultural groups. Savour tastings from the kitchens of Rideau Hall and from local culinary experts and take part in all of the fun on hand for kids!
Taste of Wellington West (Between Island Park Drive and Somerset West) – September 17, 2016 from 11 am – 3 pm
Spend the day in this vibrant neighbourhood of Ottawa as the shops along Wellington West open their doors for visitors to pop in for tastings, sales, raffles and more!
Haunting Season at Saunders Farm – Weekends from September 24-October 31, 2016
Have a frightfully fun time as your family visits Saunders Farm this fall! Go for a ride on a boo-tacular hayride. Enter the Barn of Terror for a bit of a scare. Performances and parades will also be happening for the whole family to enjoy!
Pumpkinferno at Upper Canada Village, Thursdays- Sundays (with some exceptions) – September 30-October 30, 2016
Take the family for an evening stroll to see over 7 000 whimsically carved pumpkins on display outdoors lighting your path across this dazzling display! Pumpkins of all different design and shapes will amaze all who attend. you may even pick up some tips for your family’s jack-o’-lanterns this year!
Ottawa Butterfly Show, Carleton University – Nesbitt Biology Building – October 1-9, 2016 from 9 am-4pm (Weekend closes at 3pm)
This show is a free exhibition that features 1300 butterflies that arrive in 5 different shipments representing 41 different spices worldwide! It is great for families to attend because of the interaction visitors get with these beautiful creatures.
Fall Rhapsody at Luskville Falls, Gatineau Park – October 1-16, 2016
Get outside! Travel the trails through Gatineau Park and discover the beauty of the changing of the seasons in our region! There is so much to see and learn, and you can make a day of your adventures while visiting the park. The Pontiac County Fair will have artists and artisans on hand with many products and services to help entertain visitors.
Rendez-Vous des Saveurs, Casino du Lac Leamy, Gatineau – Oct 14-16, 2016
Parents, plan a date night for this foodie lover’s event! Rendez-Vous des Saveurs attracts amazing chefs from some of the best restaurants in the area, along with professionals within the culinary industry in order to showcase local and seasonal products and a wide selection of wines from the region!
Halloween at Rideau Hall, Oct 31, 2016 from 5-8 PM
Trick-or-treating goblins and ghouls can visit the Governor General’s resident on this spookactular night while being entertained by a Halloween circus. Enjoy the sights and sounds of this event with fellow residents of Ottawa!
