Drive in Luxury and Comfort in the 2016 Lincoln MKC – A Review #LincolnMKC

| October 15, 2015 | 3 Comments

Prior to test-driving the 2016 Lincoln MKC thoughts of Lincoln conjured up images of their classic town cars; solidly built luxury cars that have a reputation for style and comfort, but also for their boat-like size. So, when I picked up the 2016 Lincoln MKC for a week of test-driving I was shocked at how far Lincoln has come by now offering the same luxury to be expected from Lincoln, but in cars, SUVs and Crossovers of all sizes.

The 2016 Lincoln MKC is a perfect example – this crossover’s sleek styling and compact size does not jeopardize the comfort or luxury expected from Lincoln! In the course of a week, my family and I put the 2016 Lincoln MKC’s durability, comfort and technologies to the test. We made it our family vehicle for the week, so wherever we went, it went and we made sure to test everything it has to offer – and I mean everything!

MKC

The most memorable driving experience we had in the 2016 Lincoln MKC was driving it from our home in Ottawa’s west end to Mountain Apple Orchard located in Mountain, Ontario. Every year my daughter, my mom and myself take a weekday afternoon off and go apple picking together. We are notorious for getting lost along our way and ending up at a new apple orchard ever year (thankfully Ottawa has many great orchards). This year, because I had the Lincoln MKC, we used its navigation system to help us find our way to Mountain Apple Orchard (an orchard we have gotten lost trying to get to once before). It was bang on! We easily found our way to and from the orchard thanks to the MKC’s easy-to-use and follow navigation system.

And because the drive to the orchard is about 45 minutes from my parents’ house, we relied on the vehicle’s satellite radio to keep my daughter happy. Let me tell you – the THX II Branded Audio System has to be the best manufacturer provided sound systems I have heard from a car in years! The sound is so rich, clear and the bass so evenly distributed I wanted to immediately take the car to a drive-in theatre just so I could have a full theatre experience! There are 14 speakers and 700 watts of power from the THX II Branded Audio System and the crisp sound it provides is a feast for the ears! This audio system is specifically designed for the MKC and is incredible. I didn’t want to return the car because of the sound system alone.

IMG_9023Sound system aside, another great feature for road trips (especially if you may be distracted by hearing “I’m bored” continuously from the back seat) is the available Lane-Keeping system. Once activated, the lane-keeping alert operates by giving the steering wheel a gentle vibrate (although enough that my daughter noticed it from the back seat) when the vehicle is detected to be drifting out of its lane. Do this too many times however and the car will gently beep and a warning will appear on your dash suggesting that it may be time to pull over for a coffee break (yes, this happened to me, but not because I was tired, I was just testing the Lane-Keeping system! Really!).

If you like using cruise control on road trips as much as I do then you’ll also appreciate the available Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) that sees the MKC maintain preset cruising speed and distance to the vehicle ahead. It also provides a collision warning with brake support to alert the driver of a potential accident. Very handy for busy highways or unexpected slow tractor traffic on country roads during harvest season, like the ones we travelled to get to the apple orchard. 🙂

This next feature is one all parents will appreciate – available Hands-Free Liftgate! How many times have you had to juggle getting your keys out while holding multiple bags and while trying to open the trunk or liftgate? Nothing is more satisfying than walking up to the 2016 Lincoln MKC with a heavy bag of apples in your hand (plus your daughter’s sweater that you noticed she dropped somewhere between the trees and the vehicle) and simply kicking your foot under the rear bumper to open the liftgate (you can do the same to close it too!). This feature should be mandatory on all cars. So handy!

The 2016 Lincoln MKC has too many useful and fun features to mention in one blog post, but if I had to choose one of my favourite features of the 2016 Lincoln MKC it would be the Active Park Assist. This feature uses ultrasonic sensors to measure open spaces and find the best parking spot and then steers the car into the parking space, while the person driving controls the gas pedal and brake. Alternatively, Park Out Assist will help guide the driver out of a tight parking spot – how handy is that for downtown parallel parking!?

My daughter says her favourite feature is the way the car “lights up at night!” It’s true – from the car doors (inside and out), to the cup holders to the handy “reading” lights available to backseat drivers, the Lincoln MKC does light up the night! In fact, I think it looks even sleeker at night then it does during the day! And the lights are all useful – never again will you miss the cup holder with your hot coffee at night and your guests will always know where the door handles are thanks to the innovative lighting available in the 2016 Lincoln MKC.

My husband would say the voice-activated SYNC 3 is his favourite feature – large LCD screen, voice commands for music search and control, hands free calling, seamless SIRI integration, automatic updates over WiFi, and no-extra charge access to 911 assist – just to mention a few of the features available with SYNC 3.

If you are looking for a compact crossover vehicle that drives and feels like a larger luxury vehicle then take a serious look at the 2016 Lincoln MKC. I wish I had this car for every road trip I take. It is quiet and comfortable and made an outing as simple as apple picking luxurious!

The Lincoln MKC not only offers a smooth and comfortable ride, but it has many available features that will make you appreciate the reputation for luxury that Lincoln is so well known for. These luxury features are greatly appreciated by a mom with a garrulous daughter in the back seat, who can sometimes be a distraction. Parents everywhere know that driving with unavoidable distractions can be tough. Thankfully MKC’s added safety features help, including:

–  Crossing Track: when backing out of a spot, the MKC will beep to tell you there is a car approaching (great when you get distracted because your child says they dropped their favourite stuffy on the driveway and you just ran it over).

–  Lane Departure: vibrate/auto correct if you start to leave your lane (great when reaching for same stuffy that was ‘accidentally’ thrown into the front set).

–  Collision Alert: if you happen to look in the backseat for a second to give your child the “warning glance” and at that same moment, the car in front of you decides to turn with no warning.

The Lincoln MKC starts at $37, 511 CDN, a reasonable price for a luxury vehicle! Test drive the 2016 Lincoln MKC today and find out for yourself what makes this vehicle so luxurious! I guarantee you won’t want to get out!
