With the warmer weather back in Canada’s Capital, are you looking for something to do that the whole family will enjoy? Kids of all ages would love to attend this year’s Ottawa Children’s Festival! It returns to LeBreton Flats Park and the Canadian War Museum from May 10-15, 2016 with an amazing lineup to entertain the whole family.
This year’s list of performers come to us from as close as Canada and reaches across the globe to Denmark and Australia. It is a diverse mix of theatre, music, and exhibits that aim to educate and amaze all who come to attend.
One of the “big” features of this year’s festival will be dotMaze: Get Lost!, presented by the UK’s street theatre specialists dotComedy. It is an outdoor 3000ft² hedge maze with 6.5” walls and a group of twenty characters. Visitors will discover walking shrubbery, a time-lapsed 150s family and even a minotaur within this maze’s walls! Each 20 to 40 minute trip promises different experiences for participants to enjoy, creating a unique story each time you pass through it! (Recommended for all ages)
American singer-songwriter and author “Mr. Eric” Litwin will be performing a dozen sets at this year’s festival. Each one will include readings and songs from his extremely popular series’ The Nuts, Groovy Joe and the original Pet the Cat quartet. Litwin’s fun tunes such as “I Love My White Shoes” are loved by children, and his readings transport kids to different realms of adventure. (Recommended for all ages)
Australia’s The Last Great Hunt brings the aquatic spectacle The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Expplorer to the Canadian War Museum. Using film, puppetry and innovative stagecraft, Alvin tells the tale of a final attempt to save humanity by finding out what lies beneath the waves of ocean. It will thrill kids while making viewers think about the natural world. (Recommended for ages 8+)
Other highly anticipated performances to see at this year’s Ottawa Children’s Festival are Australia’s Raw Company’s Raw Metal, star of CBC’s popular Will’s Jams, Will Stroet and the Backyard Band, the Netherland’s own The Box Brothers, and Teater Refleksion’s Songs from Above from Denmark.
Tickets for each performance are $13, and entrance to dotMaze is only $7. You can combine entry to dotMaze and these performances for $18! All attendees are also able to take in the numerous free on-site activities, including art-making, playing musical instruments, physical recreation and an amazing Mad Hatter Tea Party from Orbital Talent.
