As a regular (recreational) volleyball player, I was excited to get my hands on some Deep Relief products to help me with my aches and pains. In particular, my upper back and shoulders have been giving me lots of trouble lately (regularly picking up my almost 40 pound toddler probably doesn’t help). This review focuses on their new product – Deep Relief Ice Cold Spray, but I did receive other products as added bonuses, including:
- 1 Dual Action Neck, Shoulder, & Back Pain Relief (hands free)
- 1 Ice Cold Pain Gel
- 1 Deep Relief Heat Spray
- 1 Deep Relief Yoga Mat (+ carrying bag)
- 1 Deep Relief Cinch Bag
The Deep Relief Ice Cold Spray is billed by the makers as delivering “fast-acting soothing pain relief of sore muscles”, “ideal for acute injuries or after an intense workout”, and “reduces inflammation better than ice”. Deep Relief is also described as being exclusively endorsed by the Canadian Chiropractic Association.
I tried the Ice Cold Spray late one evening after playing a double header with my volleyball team. I read the instructions and took note of their warning to avoid inhalation. The product has a touch free continuous spray format which is meant to offer convenience when treating hard to reach areas. It is for temporary relief of aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with simple backache, sprains, strains and arthritis.
Using the product was similar to using spray sunscreen. I used it on my own successfully to target my upper back and shoulders. The spray dried quickly, so there was no need to have anyone else present to rub it in, as is sometimes the case with spray sunscreens. I found that I could not keep from inhaling the spray to some degree. I wondered if it was because I was spraying my upper body (near my face). So I also tried the product on my calves, but even spraying my calf while turning my head away did not prevent some inhalation, so please be careful when using this product around your kids. It is possible I accidentally used too much of the spray when I tried to use it, which could explain my experience.
I didn’t find that this product provided me much pain relief. The medicinal ingredient (menthol) simply made my back tingle, which was distracting, but not true relief. For those that do like the “tingle” of menthol, I think it’s important to say that the sensation doesn’t fade quickly, rather I found it got stronger with time. For those that would find relief from this product, I think this is a plus. Because I typically wait it out rather than use products for average aches and pains, it was hard for me to compare this experience to anything else.
Fortunately, I was given these bonus products, as I also tried each of them. The Deep Relief Heat Spray had the same issues for me as the Cold Spray. It caused me discomfort when I accidentally inhaled the product. However, on a positive note, though I wasn’t personally a huge fan of either of the sprays, I was a fan of everything else that was included as bonus products.
The Dual Action Neck, Shoulder, & Back Pain Relief (hands free) cream absolutely did provide relief for my upper back and my calves were definitely soothed by the Ice Cold Pain Gel. Overall, I preferred the hands free option rather than using the gel, but both worked great. I liked the fact that by using the cream or gel, I could more accurately gauge how much I was using and if I needed more or not.
With a husband who has serious back issues, I know the importance of regular exercise and stretching, so I was pleased to see that a yoga mat was included with the products as part of a complete treatment for the aches and pains an average person would experience. The cinch bag is a practical item for either carrying your yoga wear to the studio or for storing all your Deep Relief products in one spot for ease of access.
So, though the Deep Relief Ice Cold Spray wasn’t the right product for me, I would recommend that you enter the giveaway to try everything out for yourself 🙂
