What if Christmas was nevermore? What if  humanity’s effect on global warming caused Christmas to be ruined forever?  This is the premise of  ‘Christmas Nevermore’, an ecological Christmas Fable written by Marc Cadieux and Herve Bastien.

Finalist for the USA best book awards 2013,  Christmas Nevermore is a story of Christmas adventure. The main characters, Polik and Nika keep you enchanted from the beginning. The connection to their story is immediate.

As Christmas is quickly approaching,  chaos ensues in their Inuit village,  Akilineq. When an oil company begins digging on the wrong place, a chain of events is set into motion that threatens life as they know it.  Their grandfather (Ikkuma, the village’s Shaman) is in danger and it is up to the kids to save him.

They soon discover that not only has their lives been changed but so has Santa’s. The children find out that Santa’s world is melting and recent activity from above is threatening its very existence.

Along side Santa, the elves and a few other unexpected new friends, the children set out in a race against time to save their grandfather, their village and Christmas in its entirety.

The story sweeps you up, keeping you enthralled and entertained.  The writing style is fluid and grabs the reader. The words that hold you close are accompanied by beautiful illustrations by Christina Zakhozhay, an artist based out of Toronto. It is an appealing novel with beautiful art and a full and vibrant story.
