Bring Drawings to Life with Violet and Dandelion and Stabilo Art Supplies! #Review #Giveaway ~ CAN 01/05

| December 12, 2014 | 43 Comments

With Christmas beginning to knock on our door, some of us are scrambling to figure out what to get people on our gift-giving list. Artists, like my eldest daughter, are easy to shop for, since she loves art supplies. Sure, there are so many art supplies that are stacked on the shelves of stores just about everywhere, but for her private work, the pieces she takes pride in crating, I like finding and buying her items that will take her work to the next level and bring them to life. That is why I was happy to get the chance to review STABILO products from Violet & Dandelion.

Violet & Dandelion is a creative workshop and an exclusive online Canadian retailer of STABILO products. It was created by two moms, Zarah and Caitlin, who love expanding their imaginations through their love of art. They wanted to share their passions with children and families while also looking out for the environment, so they have products that are environmentally friendly. STABILO creates many products, including a wide range of pencils, stationary and art supply products, which they have been manufacturing for over 150 years! STABILO art supply products are some of the most popular brand of pencils, stationary and art supply products products arong the world, with users of all ages.

I surprised my daughter with these products from STABILO. She could not wait to get a piece of paper out and to start drawing. I asked her to just draw whatever she wanted. She came up with the idea to draw this picture of a man with a peculiar expression on his face. The end result, using these art supplies from STABILO, was amazing!

My daughter sketched out what she was going to draw first with the STABILO EASYgraph Pencil. These pencils were the first ergonomic pencils for left and right-handed users. Its triangular shape and the non-slip grooves help to give the user’s hand a relaxed posture. The lead quality (HB-grade) allows for this pencil to great for both writing and sketching, and the wood used to make these pencils is from responsibly managed forests. Finally, the end tips of these pencils have either a yellow or red tip to let users know whether they are for left or right-handed person (my daughter received all items marked in manner for right-handed users). My daughter liked the look and the feel of this pencil. She said that it was easier to use than a regular pencil. The lead was firm and did not break when a lot of pressure was put on it. She also said that it made sketching out her picture more fun because it was easier to hold.

My eldest then used the STABILO EASYcolours Colored Pencils. These coloured pencils are also the first ergonomic of their kind designed for left and right-handed users! Other great features of these coloured pencils are that they have a triangular shape and non-slip grooves is to give your hand a more relaxed posture, and the tips at the bottom of these coloured pencils also indicate whether they are for left or right-handed users. Finally, each of these pencils is encased in wood from responsibly managed forests. My daughter loved using these coloured pencils. Besides becoming a real fan of the grip and hand posture she is able to get while using these pencils, she likes the colours within this pack of pencils, and how bright they are on paper. She also said that these pencils felt smooth whenever she had them on paper, which she really enjoyed and did not feel when using the pencil crayons for school.

Pencil Crayon Collage

My daughter then turned to the STABILO Woody 3 in 1 Multi-Talent Pencil 5-Piece Set (sold in pack of six online or singles at Violet & Dandelion. Available in 15 vibrant colours at Violet & Dandelion, these unique pencils do the work of a coloured pencil, a give the look of watercolour and the texture of a wax crayon at the same time! We received five of these pencils to try. The colours we received were: Black, Gold, Silver, Sky Blue and Teal. She liked the texture that these pencils gave to her pictures. My daughter used the black Woody 3 in 1 on her character’s hair, and she liked how textured the hair seemed, and how more realistic it looked than if she was to use a regular coloured pencil. She also liked how this pencil felt smooth going over her piece of paper with every stroke.

Woody Collage

Coloured pencils would not be fun to use if they were not sharpened properly, so that is why Violet & Dandelion included two sharpeners for us to use with these pencils. One of these sharpeners is the ergonomic STABILO Woody 3 in 1 Coloured Pencil Sharpener. This sharpener was an added bonus to the products we received from Violet & Dandelion as it does not come with this set of pencils. She was able to quickly and easily sharpen the Woody 3 in 1 Multi-Talent Pencil she previously used. She also got to try the sharpener that does come with the STABILO EASYcolors coloured pencil set. As with the ergonomic STABILO Woody 3 in 1 coloured pencil, my daughter loved using the EASYcolors coloured Pencil Sharpener. She found it quick and easy to use, and she did not have to use much force to sharpen these pencils.

Sharpener Collage

My daughter went over the outlines of her picture and did the writing in her picture with the STABILO Power Max Fibre Tip Pens. She liked the pop of colour they were giving to the defining features of her picture. She also liked that she did not have to rush to put the cap back on these pens as these pens are suppose to last for five weeks without drying out. I like that the tips are push resistant, so that when my younger daughter gets the chance to use them, we will not worry about her putting too much pressure on them when she draws with them, pushing the tips into the shafts of the pen and rendering them useless. One of the best features of these pens is that the ink within them is washable, so if they get onto our kids’ clothing, all we have to do is to pop them into the wash to remove the stain!

Markers Collage

Here is a picture of my daughter holdig up her latest work of art, thanks to STABILO products and Violet & Dandelion! She Has many more art projects on the go now that she has these new pencils, pens and sharpeners added to her art supplies!

I can say, without a doubt, that the products my daughter used from STABILO were a big hit with her! She loved how her grip and hand posture felt more relaxed when using their EASYColours Coloured Pencils and their Woody 3 in 1 Multi-Talent Pencil 5-Piece Set. She also loved the bright colours all of the pencils and the pens added to her picture, as well as thee sturdiness they gave her while drawing. Finally, she really enjoyed the ease of the sharpeners she used when her pencils needed sharpening. I will be looking to SATABILO in the future when my daughter wants to add to her art supplies. I cannot wait to try and order some of them from Violet & Dandelion for my daughter this year. These pencils and pens would be the perfect gift for the art lover in your family!
