A Surprise in Every Box with Canadian Originals

Who doesn’t like surprises? It is always fun to find a box addressed to you at your door. Knowing it will be something special is an extra added treat. Canadian Originals wants Canadians to experience this joy with their monthly subscription boxes. They asked my family if we would enjoy receiving a box and the unique treasures within it.

Canadian Originals subscription Box

Based in Oakville, Ontario, Canadian Originals is a family owned business that aims to showcase Canadian artisans and makers. They want for Canadians to discover the fantastic products not widely available across the country. They are placed in subscription boxes for a surprise every time a box arrives at your door.

Since Canada is celebrating Canada 150 all year long, Canada Originals wanted my family to get into the spirit of this special anniversary by sending us their Canada 150 July Debut Box!

My daughter was really excited to see which products we received in our Canada 150 July box. I had to slow her down to capture her taking a first glance into the box.

So, what’s waiting inside?

Here are the contents of this themed box of goodies:

  • A “Home” wooden décor plaque by Kylee’s Keepsakes
  • A celebration rainbow soap slice from Carberry Soap Company
  • A beeswax aromatherapy candle from 9 Senses
  • Sea salt caramels from Hugo and Nate Confections
  • A giclée Canada map watercolour print by Art by Andrea Hill
  • A maple leaf necklace by Hidden Gems by Raquel
  • An anniversary Edition Quarter from the Canadian Mint.

The “Home” plaque was the first thing we saw when we unboxed these items. It gives a room in a home a welcoming feeling. I like that it is chunky, but does not have a long of weight to it. It will be going up in our foyer once it has been repainted.

Before opening the box, there was a sweet and citrus scent we could smell coming from the box. When we saw it was coming from the celebration rainbow soap slice from Carberry Soap Company, we knew we were in for a treat! The colours of this bar of soap are so bright and cheerful. My kids love the smell of their skin after they have used it. They kept asking us to smell their hands, they loved the blend of fragrances used for this soap.

After a few long days of kids enjoying their summer vacation, we were happy to have the house to ourselves once they were in bed. Once they were tucked in, we turned up the tunes, kicked our feet up and lit the aromatherapy candle from 9 Senses. The scent is named “Sensual” for good reason. It is a blend of Ylang-Ylang, Patchouli, Tangerine, Lavender and Sandalwood. This candle put us at ease while we began to relax for the evening.

The item from our Canadian Originals our kids enjoyed the most was our package of sea salt caramels from Hugo and Nate Confections. The big kids (my other half and I) couldn’t blame them. Each one was buttery, salty and oh so sweet! They melted in our mouths and were sad to see the package empty in only a few minutes.

Our home is lacking in the art department. Sure, we have many priceless pieces from our children’s collection, but not many works from artists who live outside of our home. The giclée Canada map watercolour print by Art by Andrea Hill was great to get to add a bit of art and Canadian spirit to our humble abode. The colours pop off the page it was created on and brings a lot of life to a room.

Every Canadian has something about them that makes them shine. The maple leaf necklace by Hidden Gems by Raquel adds to this sparkle.

This is accomplished by the gems and the chain of this piece. The finishing touch is the maple leaf on the pendant. It is beautifully crafted and is a great to wear with many different outfits. My daughter could not wait to sport it!

Many people enjoy collecting items as keepsakes or to commemorate a special event. A very popular item to collect is coins. The Canadian Mint unveiled their Canada 150 collection of coins to mark this special anniversary for our country. It was a fabulous idea to have received the Anniversary Edition Quarter as a part of the Canada 150 Box. Its design is the symbol that has been designated as the symbol for Canada 150, and is a great piece to have whether you are a collector or as a lover of all things Canadian.

All of the items found in the July Debut Box put together by Canadian Originals really is a great way for Canadians to celebrate their love of Canada and to find out about Canadian artists and makers that they may not have discovered on their own. Each of them added a bit of whimsy to our home and put a smile of our faces. This was a great surprise to receive, and I am curious to see what surprise is waiting within the other boxes they will have available to buy.

Curious about the many specialty boxes and artisans with Canadian Originals? We found out more about them by connecting with them on their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest pages. Take a look to see what you’ll find!

My name is Lian Wright. Born in Toronto, I came to Ottawa as a student to study Political Science at Carleton University, and came away with an Honours Degree, and decided to stay. I'm a huge sports fan, have a love of reading, and like experiencing new things whenever I can. I am now a mother of three children (11, 1 and 7 months old) and am kept constantly on my toes. My blog, Pieces of Me, is my way of sharing what I have enjoyed and encountered in my life so far as a mother. So far, being a mom has had it's expected ups and downs, but that's what makes being a parent so fulfilling for me. I've loved and learned from what's happened so far, and I can't wait to see what's in store for me next. I hope you enjoy the journey with me!
