March is (finally) here, folks! This is gets me thinking about the warm days of spring that will be here in just a few weeks. Since we will be kissing the winter snow goodbye soon, I want to start to focus on springing into spring this year! Here are four ways I will be celebrating the end of the winter chill and the beginning of the gorgeous weather that is on its way.
1. Finding fun spring wardrobe pieces
Whether it be for going away or to hanging out around town, I want to add fun pieces to my wardrobe. Can you blame a girl for wanting to find a chance to shop? When looking for new pieces, I will have in mind some of the hot colours trending for Spring/Summer 2016. Some of my favourite colours that will be seen this year are buttercup, fiesta (a spicy red), green flash, lilac grey and serenity (a light blue). I will also be looking for pieces such as blouses, pants, shorts and skirts that can be staples in my wardrobe so they can be worn for more than one season.
2. Becoming more active
Since the weather is getting better, I need to take up some new sports to raise my level of fitness. I would like to do more running, but I would also like to dust off the old bike and take it out on the trails around my home. My best friend, who also happens to be my aunt, has also threw down the gauntlet and challenged me to take the plunge to start swimming at local pool, and to join her as a part of a recreational volleyball team. I humbly accepted. My aunt does not let anything slow her down, especially her Adult Incontinence (or AI).
Did you know that 1 in 3 women in Canada suffer from AI and that it can happen to women of all ages? She knows that there will be times that she needs some help to protect her from light bladder leakage (LBL), but for her, life as a senior is too short to have to always worry about it. When she needs to rely on protection from LBL while living her active lifestyle, she likes to turn to Always Discreet Maximum Pads, Long Length. These pads feature Dual LeakGuards™ and OdorLock™ technology that help to protect her from moderate bladder leaks. She feels she can take on any challenge and have fun conquering it when she is wearing Always Discreet pads.

3. Snacking healthier
It would be an understatement to say that I LOVE eating junk food. Chips, fast food, pop, oh and dare I forget my ultimate vice, chocolate! These were my go-to snacks when I’m peckish during the day. Since my kids are starting to pick up on my horrible habits, I felt it was my responsibility to set a better example for them. For snack time, I’m giving them healthier options such as veggie sticks, cheese and crackers, and fruit. After a workout, I’m treating myself to yogurt or cottage cheese with some of my favourite fruits mixed in to add flavour and replenish energy to my body. The worst time for snacking is at night. Instead of having a bowl of chips and pop with my daughter for our usual hangout session, we have begun slicing up apples or celery and having water to wash it all down. With all of these changes, I can see we have become more energized and active throughout the day.
4. Finding my love of water
Continuing with the H²O, it has never been one I would readily choose to quench my thirst. I have always turned to juice or pop, but the amount of sugar in these beverages is working against me to achieve my goals of becoming more fit and feeling healthy. I decided I had to grin and bear adding more water to my day. I have a mug lemon water with a bit of honey first thing in the morning to get myself going. I also have water before, during and after my workouts before my lunch during the week. While making dinner I will sip on some water to refresh myself. If I do not have a hangout session with my daughter at night, I make a point to bring a glass of water to bed and I find I sleep better after doing so. I am also looking at flavouring my water so I can make this beverage more of a choice and less of a chore.
These are just a few ways I am getting ready for spring 2016. I just want to shake off this winter and be ready for all of the fun this season brings for me and my family. Spring is all about fresh starts, and I can’t wait for it to begin and to carry this feeling through the rest of the year. I hope these tips can help you spring into spring this year as well!
