1. Sugar Festival 2017 – Vanier Museopark, March 30-April 4, 2017
This festival brings together a variety of fun activities for families to take in and enjoy, from a lumberjack competition, axe throwing, to maple tastings, musical acts, performers and more.
Want to take your family for an exhilarating adventure through the trees just 20 minutes from downtown Ottawa? Visit Camp Fortune’s Zipline and Aerial Park for the ride of your life!
Note – Open on weekdays for groups 15+ with a reservation. Weekends and Victoria Day (May 23, 2017) it is open from 9 AM until 2 hours before dusk.
3. Sugar Lumber Fest – Horticultural Building, Lansdowne Park, April 8, 2017
The Horticultural Building at Lansdowne Park will be transformed into an urban sugar shack for the Sugar Lumber Fest! Be a part of one of three sittings to take in a non-traditional gourmet menu created by Jean-Philippe Ménard, Chef at Rituel. There will also be a savoury beans served piping hot from a kettle and taste maple syrup straight from a maple tree. An outdoor chocolate bar, a maple taffy bar and a lumberjack competition will also be available with each reservation to this event.
4. Ottawa International Children’s Festival – Various locations, May 10 – 14, 2017
The world of the arts is on display at the Ottawa International Children’s Festival! Performers from around the world come to Ottawa to deliver world-class theatre, music and dance to children and their families.
5. Canadian Tulip Festival – Commissioners Park, May 12 – 22, 2017
Four sites will be in full bloom for this world-famous festival with 1 million tulips for visitors to take in for this festival as well as for Canada 150 festivities.
6. RCMP Musical Ride – RCMP Musical Ride Stables, 1 Sandridge Road, Various dates from May 18, 2017
View the intricate routine riders and their horses perform to music that demands precise control, timing and coordination with your family at the RCMP Musical Ride! These officers give the communities they perform for the opportunity to experience the heritage and traditions of the RCMP. They also act as goodwill ambassadors of the RCMP around the world. It will be a fun show for the whole family to see!
7. Doors Open Ottawa – Various Locations, June 3-4, 2017
Business owners from Carp to Cumberland open their doors and invite the public in to show off and explore 129 of their architecturally and historically significant buildings for free!
8. WESTFest – Laroche Park, June 2-4, 2017
Take the family for a visit this festival of music, art and life at the biggest free street party in Canada! There will be fun for every member of the family with concerts and a Kidszone for even more fun for kids make this a great event to go to.

Need to take an adventure in the great outdoors? Below are a few ideas you can enjoy with your family any day of the week!
12. Gatineau Park
From trails for various sports, camping and boating to learning about how to use a map and searching for creatures in nature, Gatineau Park has something for everyone in the family to enjoy!
Dust off those helmets and get the family out on the bike trails over 50 kilometres of some of Ottawa and Gatineau’s scenic routes on Sunday mornings without the worry of cars! These road closures take place from 9 am – 1 pm from late May to early September every year.
Museum Amusement Throughout the Spring
If rainy days make getting outdoors impossible, or if it is a spur of the moment outing you are looking for, then head over to one of the museums in the Ottawa region for some family fun all spring long! They have special exhibits, films and activities that will entertain your family.

19. Tea on the Lawn & Boxed Lunches – Billings Estate National Historic Site, May 17 – September 3, 2017, from 11 am – 4 pm
Looking for some peaceful bonding time with your family? Wednesdays – Fridays and Sundays at the Billings Estate National Historic Site are sure to fit the bill as they host Tea on the Lawn and Boxed Lunches no matter the weather! For those not too fond of the outdoors for a sip of tea, groups are also able to enjoy indoor tea service by reservation. *Note – It is recommended to reserve for these events as space is limited.
20. Children and Family Events – Cumberland Heritage Village Museum, Throughout the season
Families can learn and discover so many things at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum! There are animals from the Heritage Livestock Club of Eastern Ontario, Radio Flyer wagons, go-carts, two life-sized board games, wagon rides, sawmill and blacksmith demonstrations. Train lovers will love experiencing the Ottawa Valley Live Steamers and Engineers’ miniature railway. Visitors will discover how the railway operates and the history behind it. This part of the museum is available beginning on May 8, 2017, on alternating Sundays between 11 am and 3 pm, weather permitting.
